6th Balkan Conference on Informatics, September 19-21, 2013, Thessaloniki, Greece. Invited Speakers:
  • Prof. Joseph Sifakis ACM Turing Award 2007, VERIMAG Lab, Grenoble & EPFL
  • Prof. Nikola (Nik) Kasabov, Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand
  • Prof. Peri Loucopoulos, University of Loughborough, UK
On sabbatical for the spring semester 2013. Visited the Department of Electrical Engineering at Princeton University. I collaborate with Prof. S. Y. Kung on studying machine learning algorithms for big data sets (Big data Machine Learning) using parallel and distributed processing methods."
Also collaborating with Prof. Tomas McKelvey at Chalmers Technical University in Gothenburg, Sweden. The topic of research is development of novel machine learning methods.

My research interests are in the areas of machine learning, signal processing, and parallel processing. See my work on pattern recognition and classification, blind signal processing, image and video processing, neural networks, and parallel processing.
I am currently Senior Area Editor for the IEEE Signal Processing Letters, Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, and the Journal of Signal Processing Systems (Springer). From 1999 to 2000 I have also served as Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks.

Co-author of the book "Principal Component Neural Networks: Theory and Applications", (New York: Wiley, 1996).

In 1997, co-recipient of the IEEE Best Paper Award in the area of Neural Networks for Signal Processing for the paper "Adaptive Principal Component Extraction (APEX) and Applications", (IEEE Trans. Signal Processing, May 1994).

Since 2005 I am a member of the Machine Learning for Signal Processing Technical Committee (MLSP-TC) of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) and chairman of the MLSP-TC from 2009 to 2010.
I have also served as member of the Signal Processing Theory and Methods (SPTM) TC from 2005 to 2008.
Since 2008 I am a Senior Member IEEE.

General chairman of the

Member of the technical committee for various machine learning, signal processing and neural networks conferences.

Member of the Board of the Hellenic (Greek) Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (HQAA) from 2008 until 2011.

Ph.D.: Princeton University, Department of Electrical Engineering, USA, 1992.

Diploma: National Technical University of Athens, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Greece, 1987
